SAN ANTONIO (May 10, 2021) – Community First is proud to be a sponsor of the Urban Soccer League Association (USLA) Champions Merit Scholarship and are excited to support 10 graduating seniors with scholarships to attend the college of their choice in the fall of 2021.

“Supporting our community is what keeps us going at Community First,” says Cynthia De La Pena, Sr. Manager, Outreach Development for Community First Health Plans. “We hope to continue creating opportunities for children to excel in all facets of education and higher learning.

Graduating seniors that applied to this scholarship had to show that they led by example on and off the field, complete 6 hours of community service, maintain a 3.0 GPA and have 90% or greater attendance at school. In addition, applicants were also asked to submit a written essay sharing what they wanted to achieve and accomplish in life, as well as, what servant leadership means to them and how it would be applied.

Scholarships were awarded based on the applicant’s choice.

  • $250 was awarded to the student who committed to attend a local community college,
  • $500 was awarded to the student who committed to attend an out-of-town Community College
  • $750 was awarded to the student who committed to attend a local 4-year University
  • $1000 was awarded to the student who committed to attend an out of town 4-year University
